How to choose a medical marketing company in Saudi Arabia: 10 checks before you sign

A buyer's method for clinic owners and medical directors in the Gulf: decide whether you need to be found, noticed or booked, then test any company on 10 checks, from a client you can phone and who owns your Google profile to who signs off medical claims, how reports are built and how you leave.

Choose a medical marketing company by the job you need done, not by its portfolio. Decide whether patients must find you when they search, notice you before they search, or book after they enquire. Then test every company on ten checks, from a client you can phone to who owns your accounts and who signs off medical claims.

This guide is for owners, medical directors and managers of clinics and clinic groups in Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Oman and Bahrain. A note on the search results for this question: on page 1 in Riyadh on 18 October 2026, the results we could open were all published by marketing or consulting companies that sell the service, and with Saudi settings Google completes «شركة تسويق طبي» with «افضل شركة تسويق طبي في السعودية» and «افضل شركة تسويق طبي في الرياض». We are an SEO agency too, so we do not rank companies, and you should be careful with any list that does. What follows is a method you can run on any company, including us. For the narrower question of choosing an SEO agency, see our guide on how to choose an SEO agency in the Gulf.

Step 1: Decide which job you are buying

“Medical marketing” covers three different jobs, and most companies are strong at one of them.

Job The patient’s moment What the company does What to measure
1. Be found when patients search «عيادة اسنان قريبة مني مفتوح الآن», “dentist in Riyadh” Google Business Profile and Maps for each branch, treatment pages in Arabic and English, technical SEO Calls, direction requests and booking-form submissions from search and Maps
2. Be noticed before patients search A new clinic, a new treatment, a seasonal offer Paid search and social campaigns, video, creators Cost per booked patient, not reach
3. Turn an enquiry into a booked visit “Do they have an appointment this week?” Review requests and replies, a short booking path, call and message handling Share of enquiries that become bookings, time to first reply

Which job comes first depends on where your clinic leaks. Three quick tests:

  1. Search your clinic by name, then by what a patient types, such as «عيادة اسنان قريبة مني». Found by name only? That is job 1, and our checklist for a clinic not showing on Google Maps finds the cause.
  2. Count last month’s enquiries and last month’s booked visits. Many enquiries and empty chairs is job 3, and no campaign fixes it.
  3. Opening a branch or launching a treatment next quarter? Job 2 creates the demand that job 1 later captures.

How much search demand is there to capture? Our Keyword Planner pull gives a lower bound of 15,400 monthly searches for 10 dental terms in Riyadh city and 10,900 in Jeddah (September 2025 to August 2026). The Ministry of Health counted 7,579 private-sector dentists in the Riyadh health branch in 2024, which puts the Riyadh lower bound at about 2 searches per dentist per month (Khaleej SEO calculation: 15,400 divided by 7,579; a rough comparison, because search is measured for the city while the Ministry counts dentists by health branch, which covers more than the city, and 10 terms only, as a lower bound). The exact ratio matters less than the lesson: in a crowded city the same patients are shared among many clinics, so a company that promises “visibility” without naming the searches and districts you would win is selling a feeling. Our guide to getting more dental patients in Riyadh and Jeddah has the method, and the Saudi dental statistics page has the regional table.

Step 2: Ten checks to run on every company

For each check: what to ask, what a good answer sounds like, and when to walk away.

1. A client you can phone, in your specialty

A portfolio shows that a company employs a designer. It does not show that the clinic in the screenshot got more patients, or that the company still works with it. Ask for a current client in your specialty and your country, and phone them. Then open that clinic’s Google Maps profile yourself: are the reviews from different people across many months, does the clinic reply, is the profile complete?

A good answer: an introduction within a day. Walk away if: you get more screenshots, or “all our clients are confidential”.

2. What they do, and what they send elsewhere

Ask the company to place itself on the three jobs above and to name the one it would give to someone else. A company that does search, paid campaigns, video, creators, the website and reviews at the same depth, for one flat package, is stretching.

A good answer: “We are strongest at search and the website; for video we work with, or would recommend, a specialist.” Walk away if: every service is “included” and nothing is counted.

3. A plan built from patient searches and your districts

Ask what they would do in the first 30 days, in writing. A plan that starts from patients names treatments and districts, because patients in the Gulf put distance and time into the search. With Saudi settings on 18 October 2026, Google completed «عيادة اسنان قريبة» with «مفتوح الآن», «للاطفال», «في 800 م» and «في 1.6 كم». A package that is identical for a dental clinic, a skin clinic and a hospital cannot have been built from that.

A good answer: a list of treatments and districts, what goes live in weeks 1 to 4 and how each item is measured. Walk away if: the proposal is a list of services without counts, or it promises a position or a number of patients. Google says plainly that there is no way to request or pay for a better local ranking, and nobody controls how many patients will call.

4. Who holds the keys

The clinic’s own Google account should be the primary owner of the Business Profile, and the company should be added as a manager with its own Google account. Google’s roles make this workable: a profile can have several owners but only one primary owner, and managers can edit information, reply to reviews and manage posts, but cannot add or remove users or remove the profile. Nobody needs to share a password.

If the company holds the only verified access and you part ways, getting the profile back is a request, not a right: the current owner has 3 days to respond, and Google says the option to claim the profile after no response is not always available. The same rule applies to the Google Ads account (Google describes manager accounts as a tool for agencies that manage several accounts, so the clinic can own the account and the company can be linked), to Analytics, Search Console, the domain, the hosting and the website itself.

A good answer: “You own everything; we work as managers.” Walk away if: “we keep the accounts under our agency”.

5. Who signs off medical claims

Health marketing is regulated, and the enforcement notices we read name practitioners and facilities, not the companies that wrote their posts. On 21 April 2024, the Ministry said it issued advertisement violations and a four-month suspension to a practitioner it found continuously publishing commercial advertisements without a scientific basis. It added that its compliance teams follow what is published on social platforms, and it cited Article 10 of the Law on the Practice of Health Professions, which prohibits practitioners from advertising or publicizing themselves directly or through an intermediary. A Ministry statement of 12 February 2025, as reported by Lexis Middle East, adds that the Private Health Institutions System prohibits health institutions from advertising except in line with the executive regulations and professional ethics.

Prices need care too. A 2014 Ministry notice on amendments to the Private Health Institutions bylaw says private health institutions must have their price lists approved by the Ministry, publicize the prices and not change them without its consent, so an offer that quotes a price is a compliance question, not only a design one (this is our reading of that notice). And if the company runs Google Ads, Google expects advertisers to know the local rules for every location they target.

Ask: who reviews medical claims before anything is published, and who in my team signs? How are before-and-after photos, patient stories, offers, doctor profiles and patient consent handled?

A good answer: a named review step, a clinician from your side approving medical content, and a request for your licence and the current requirements before offers are written. Walk away if: nobody reviews, or offers are copied from competitors. This guide is not legal advice and contains no treatment advice; check the current Ministry of Health requirements for your country. Our dental clinic SEO guide lists the points to check before you publish.

6. A report that ends at booked patients

Ask for a real monthly report, with names removed. It should show calls, direction requests, form submissions and booked visits by source, not only reach, followers and impressions. Two traps:

  • Average position is not a ranking. In Search Console, Google defines it as the average position of the topmost result from your site across the rows shown. Ask for positions measured as a patient in your city sees them, with personalization off, and for the searches behind each one.
  • Bookings are counted at your front desk. The company cannot see them. Agree one way to record how each new patient found you, even a single field in your booking system.

A good answer: a sample report with these lines. Walk away if: the headline number is reach or followers.

7. Reviews collected inside Google’s rules

Google says more reviews and positive ratings can help local ranking, so companies are tempted to shortcut them. Google’s Maps policy bans incentives for reviews and bans discouraging negative reviews or selectively asking for positive ones. A profile caught with fake engagement can be blocked from receiving new reviews for a period, have existing reviews unpublished and show patients a warning.

Ask how they collect reviews. A good answer: the same short request for every patient after the visit, with the direct link, and replies that keep health details out of public view. Walk away if: you hear about review packages, gifts or discounts in exchange for reviews, or reviews written for you by the company.

8. Your website and booking path

Most marketing ends on your website. Ask who can edit it, who owns the code and the hosting, how fast it loads on a phone, whether the Arabic and English versions are separate pages, whether each treatment has its own page and how many steps lie between a visitor and a booking. Google’s guidelines also ask that the phone number on the profile is under the business’s direct control, so a tracking number the company owns must never replace the clinic’s real one without a plan.

A good answer: a short audit of your site with the fixes ranked. Walk away if: the site is a template you cannot move or edit without them.

9. What happens after the enquiry

A good company asks about your reception before it asks about your budget: who answers calls and messages, how fast, and what is said. A campaign can fill the inbox and still fail because enquiries wait a day. Ask the company to call or message the clinic as a patient and tell you what happened.

A good answer: questions about your booking process in the first meeting. Walk away if: they never ask, and measure only the enquiry.

10. Contract, review point and exit

Ask for monthly deliverables counted in writing (pages, profile updates, reports), a review point after the first phase, the notice period, and exactly what you take when you leave: Business Profile ownership, ad account history, analytics access, source files, website and content. A long lock-in with no review point leaves you no leverage. For what drives scope and budget, without prices, see our guide to SEO cost in Saudi Arabia.

A good answer: deliverables counted, a review date and an exit list. Walk away if: a long lock-in with no review and no list of what you keep.

The 10 checks, and the answers that should end the call

# Check Ask Walk away if
1 Reference A current client in my specialty I can phone Only screenshots
2 Job fit Which job are you strongest at, and which do you send elsewhere? Everything is “included”
3 Plan What happens in the first 30 days, in writing? Services without counts, promised positions
4 Accounts Is the clinic the primary owner of every account? The company keeps the accounts
5 Medical claims Who reviews and who signs? Nobody reviews
6 Reporting Can I see a real report? Reach is the headline
7 Reviews How do you ask patients for reviews? Gifts, packages or reviews written for you
8 Website Who owns the code, hosting and edits? A template you cannot move
9 After the enquiry What do you ask about my reception? They never ask
10 Contract What do I take with me, and when do we review? Long lock-in with no review

How to run the comparison

  1. Write one brief and send it to three companies: your specialties and branches, the cities and districts you serve, last month’s enquiries and booked visits by source, the treatments you want more of, the tracking you have today, who holds your accounts, and who in your team approves medical content.
  2. Ask the same ten questions in writing, then hold one 30-minute call with each.
  3. Phone the references and open their Google Maps profiles.
  4. Score each check 0, 1 or 2: 0 for no answer or a walk-away answer, 1 for a vague answer, 2 for a specific answer you can check. Any company with a 0 on checks 4, 5 or 10 is out, whatever the total.
  5. Ask one last question: “What would make you tell me to stop spending?” A company that can answer is thinking about your economics. One that cannot is thinking about its retainer.
  6. Start with a defined first phase, with a review date, before any long commitment.

Where Khaleej SEO fits, and where it does not

Khaleej SEO does job 1: being found when patients search. In our dental SEO service that means a Business Profile for every branch, treatment pages in Arabic and English, the technical fixes behind them and a monthly report of calls, direction requests and bookings. Dental is our clinic specialism; for another specialty the method above still holds, but ask any company, us included, for a client in your own specialty.

For video, influencer campaigns or paid advertising, hire a specialist for that job, and expect a good company to tell you when a job is not theirs. If you are deciding between paid search and SEO first, our dental SEO or Google Ads guide sets out what each buys. Our published case studies are in e-commerce and travel, not in dental, so weigh that, and run the ten checks on us as well. The cheapest test is the free audit: five prioritized fixes with the evidence, which you can check yourself, with no obligation.

See what a company would find on your clinic’s website. Our free 5-point audit covers your Google profile, your treatment pages, your reviews against the clinics above you and the booking path. FAQ

Frequently asked questions

How do I choose a medical marketing company?

Start with the job, not the portfolio: do patients need to find you when they search, notice you before they search, or book after they enquire? Then test each company on the same questions: a client in your specialty you can phone, who owns your Google accounts, who signs off medical claims, a sample report that ends at booked patients, and what you take with you if you leave.

What does a medical marketing company do for a clinic?

Three different jobs, and few companies are strong at all of them. The first is being found when patients search, through Google Maps, the website and search. The second is reaching people before they search, through paid campaigns, social media and video. The third is turning enquiries into booked visits, through reviews, a short booking path and fast replies. Ask which one a company is strongest at.

Who should own the clinic's Google Business Profile and ad accounts?

The clinic. Google lets a Business Profile have several owners but only one primary owner, and managers can edit information, reply to reviews and post without being able to add or remove users or delete the profile. Make the clinic's own Google account the primary owner and add the company as a manager. Do the same with the ad account, Analytics, Search Console and the domain.

Do health advertising rules apply to a clinic's marketing company?

The rules apply to what the clinic and its practitioners publish, whoever writes it. The Ministry of Health has said it follows what is published on social platforms and has issued advertisement violations and a four-month suspension to a practitioner for commercial ads without a scientific basis. Ask who reviews medical claims before publication, and check the current Ministry requirements. This guide is not legal advice.

Can a marketing company guarantee a place in the Google Maps top 3?

No. Google says there is no way to request or pay for a better local ranking, and nobody controls how many patients will call. A company can commit to its own work, such as pages, profile fixes and reports, and give you an estimate of what that work can achieve. Treat a guaranteed position or patient number as a reason to leave.

How much should a medical marketing company cost?

Price depends on scope, the number of branches, how competitive your city is and whether ad spend is included, so a price alone says little about quality. Compare companies on counted deliverables and on what the report shows, not on the monthly figure. Our guide to SEO cost in Saudi Arabia explains what drives the scope.
