Clinic not showing on Google Maps? Find the cause in 12 checks

A diagnosis order for clinic owners in Saudi Arabia and the Gulf: first find out whether Google hides your profile or ranks it low, then work through 12 checks, from verification, suspensions and duplicates to categories, hours, reviews and distance.

If your clinic does not show on Google Maps, search for its exact name first. If it does not appear even then, Google is hiding the profile: it is unverified, suspended, treated as a duplicate or controlled by someone else. If it appears by name but not for “dentist near me” or a treatment, the profile is live but ranks low, and the fix is relevance, distance and prominence.

This guide is for owners and managers of dental and medical clinics in Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Oman and Bahrain whose clinic is missing from the map, or only appears when someone already knows its name. Start at the two-search test and stop at the first check that fits. For setting up a profile from scratch, see our Google Business Profile guide for dental clinics.

First, the two-search test

Before changing anything, run two searches on Google Maps from a phone that is not inside the clinic:

  1. The clinic’s exact name, as it appears on your signage.
  2. What a new patient types, such as «عيادة اسنان» or “dentist”, and then a treatment you offer, such as «تقويم اسنان» or “teeth whitening”.
What you see What it means Go to
The clinic does not appear even for its exact name Google is not showing the profile at all Part A, checks 1 to 6
It appears for its name, but not for patient searches The profile is live but ranks below other clinics Part B, checks 7 to 12
It appears, but the pin sits on the wrong building Location problem Check 6
It appears on your phone, but patients say they cannot find it You are searching from next to the clinic Check 12

Google’s autocomplete shows how often these get mixed up: with Saudi settings on 18 October 2026, “business not showing on google maps” was completed with “verified business not showing on google maps”, “business name not showing on google maps” and “business pin not showing on google maps”. Three different problems, three different fixes.

Why your own phone is the worst place to test from

Google says local results are based mainly on relevance, distance and prominence, and that when a searcher does not share their location, Google uses what it knows about it. Search from inside the clinic and you are zero metres away, so your clinic looks stronger than it is. A patient two districts away sees a different map.

Patients in the Gulf make distance explicit. In the same autocomplete pull, «عيادة اسنان قريبة» (dental clinic nearby) was completed with «قريبة مني مفتوح الآن» (near me, open now), «للاطفال» (for children), «في 800 م» and «في 1.6 كم» (within 800 metres, within 1.6 kilometres). The map a patient compares is often a radius of a kilometre or two, filtered by what is open at that moment.

To test properly, ask colleagues in other districts to search from home. In our audits we run the searches as a patient in that city sees them, with personalisation switched off.

Part A: the clinic does not appear even by name

1. The profile is not verified, or verification is stuck

Google’s help is direct: only verified businesses can show their business information on Maps and Search. Three clinic traps:

  • Phone verification on a menu line. Google’s verification page says interactive voice response systems will not receive the code. If the clinic number opens with “press 1 for appointments”, choose another method or route the call to a person.
  • Video verification without the evidence Google asks for. Live video calls are only available during your business hours, and you need to show the outside signage or street, your equipment, and proof that you run the place, such as access to staff-only areas. Prepare this before you start the call.
  • Postcard codes. Most arrive within 14 days and expire after 30. While you wait, do not change the clinic name, address or category, and do not request a new code: both make the code in the post stop working.

Google chooses the verification methods and they cannot be changed, so use the one you are offered and follow it exactly.

2. The profile is suspended or disabled

A profile that breaks Google’s guidelines is disabled or suspended and does not show to anyone until the problem is fixed. Google notifies the Google account that manages the profile, so check that inbox first.

In Gulf clinic profiles, three habits in the name field clash with Google’s guidelines:

  • Treatments in the name, such as adding implants or orthodontics after the clinic name.
  • Location in the name, such as the district, the street or a nearby mall.
  • The same name repeated in Arabic and English. Google does not allow a name repeated in two scripts, even when the signage shows both. Use the name once, in the form patients know.

An address without permanent signage, or a virtual office, also breaks the guidelines.

To fix it, bring the profile in line with the guidelines, then use the Business Profile appeals tool. Google lists the evidence that helps: an official business registration, a business licence, tax certificates and utility bills, with the name and address matching the profile. For a Saudi clinic, that usually means the commercial registration, the health facility licence, the tax registration certificate and an electricity bill in the clinic’s name (our reading of Google’s list). Two rules matter most: an appeal can only be submitted once, so send complete evidence the first time, and do not create a new profile for the same clinic.

3. Google treats the profile as a duplicate

A profile that Google considers a duplicate does not show on Search or Maps. Google names three triggers: a verified profile already exists for the same business, several profiles share the same address, or several profiles exist for the same business with different services. Clinics hit all three:

  • A second profile created by a new manager or agency because nobody had the old login.
  • An “implant centre” or “orthodontic centre” profile at the same address as the main clinic. Google’s guidance is to list services on one profile, not to create a profile per service.
  • A clinic that moved and created a new profile instead of updating the address on the old one.
  • Doctor profiles set up the wrong way. Google treats dentists and doctors as individual practitioners. In a clinic with several public-facing doctors, the clinic keeps its own profile and each doctor’s profile carries only the doctor’s name, without the clinic’s name. The format “brand: doctor name” is for a doctor who is the only practitioner at a branded location, and then the doctor and the clinic share one profile.

Remove a duplicate you created yourself (carefully: removal deletes that profile’s content and managers). For duplicates you do not control, request a merge by suggesting an edit on Google Maps; reviews are combined, but replies may be lost. Two genuinely separate clinics in one medical tower can each have a profile if their names and signage differ.

4. Someone else controls the profile

A former employee, a former agency or a previous owner may hold the only verified access. Request ownership through Google Business Profile: the current owner has 3 days to respond, and if they do not, you may get the option to claim the profile, although Google says that option is not always available. Then make the clinic’s own Google account the owner and give agencies and staff manager access only.

5. The profile is new, or edits are still under review

Google says rankings for new businesses can take up to a month to appear in search results, and that edits can take up to 3 days to show. Address changes usually appear in about 10 minutes, but can take up to 30 days when they go to review. If you changed the name, address or category recently, let that edit finish before changing anything else.

6. The pin or the address points to the wrong place

In malls, medical towers and new districts, the pin can sit on the building or the car park instead of the clinic entrance. Google lets you adjust the pin on the map when the address has no street number or cannot be found, and a clinic inside a mall can ask for that to be shown on its profile. Use the official address with building, floor and unit number. Add landmarks only where the official address does not pinpoint the clinic, and never add keywords to the address lines. In Saudi Arabia, keep the address identical to the one on your official documents, such as your National Address.

Part B: the clinic shows by name but not for patient searches

Here the profile is live but ranks below other clinics for searches such as «عيادة اسنان» or “dentist near me”. Google says there is no way to request or pay for a better local ranking. It names three factors: relevance (how well the profile matches the search), distance (how far the clinic is from the person searching) and prominence (how well known the business is, including how many websites link to it and how many reviews it has).

The categories tell Google what the clinic is, which decides the searches it is matched with. Google’s guidance: use as few categories as possible, choose the most specific category that still represents the main business, and pass the test “this business IS a”, not “this business HAS a”. A family practice filed under a narrow specialist category is matched with fewer of its patients’ searches. Our Google Business Profile guide for dental clinics has a category table by type of clinic.

8. Treatments are missing from the profile and the website

Relevance also comes from the services on the profile and from your website: Google says it can detect category information from your website and from mentions of your business across the web. List every treatment you want patients to find as a service, in Arabic and English, in the words patients type. Then give each one a page on your site, linked from the branch page.

Keep the business description factual. Google’s guidelines exclude promotions, prices and links from it, and your health regulator may treat claims such as “painless” as advertising. Our guide to getting more dental patients in Riyadh and Jeddah lists the treatment and district searches that have measurable demand.

Patients filter by what is open: autocomplete completes «عيادة اسنان قريبة مني» with «مفتوح الآن» (open now). If the profile shows the clinic as closed, a patient filtering for open clinics does not see it. Gulf-specific fixes:

  • Set Ramadan hours as special hours before the month starts, then again for Eid al-Fitr, Eid al-Adha and the national days. Special hours cover a change or a closure of up to 6 days in a row, and Google suggests confirming your hours for official holidays even when they do not change.
  • Enter split shifts, such as a morning and an evening shift, as two sets of hours on the same day.
  • Keep one set of hours per branch, matching that branch’s real schedule.

10. Fewer reviews than the clinics around you, or a review restriction

Google says more reviews and positive ratings can help a business’s local ranking, and that replying to reviews shows you value feedback. A clinic with a handful of reviews next to neighbours with hundreds starts behind on prominence. The fix is a steady routine: every patient gets the same short request after the visit, with the direct link to your review form, and every review gets a reply that keeps health details out of public view.

The shortcut costs more than it saves. Under Google’s fake engagement policy, a profile with fake or incentivised reviews can be blocked from receiving new reviews for a period, have its existing reviews unpublished, or show patients a warning that fake reviews were removed. So no discount, free cleaning or gift in exchange for a review, and no reviews from staff or their families.

Link each branch’s profile to that branch’s page on your own website, with the same name, address and phone number as the profile, the doctors who work there and the treatments offered there. Google’s guidelines ask for a phone number under the clinic’s direct control, a local number rather than a central call-centre line where possible, and no numbers or links that redirect to other pages, including pages on social media sites. If the site has indexing, speed or language problems, the profile sends patients to a dead end; our technical SEO work starts there.

12. Distance: too many clinics are closer to the patient

Distance is the one factor you cannot change, and in large Gulf cities it weighs heavily. The Ministry of Health counted 7,579 private-sector dentists in the Riyadh health branch in 2024; our Saudi dental statistics page has the regional table. A patient two kilometres away in a busy district has many clinics closer than yours, and you win that patient only with more relevance and prominence.

What works is making each branch strong in its own catchment: a branch page that says which districts it serves and how to reach it, treatment pages, and reviews from that branch’s patients. For districts beyond realistic reach, paid ads fill the gap. If your clinic has branches across the capital, our page on SEO in Riyadh shows how we plan district by district.

When to get help

If checks 1 to 6 are clear and the clinic still sits below its neighbours, the cause is usually a mix of category, services, reviews and the website behind the profile, and it differs by branch and by district. That is the work inside our dental SEO for clinics: one correct profile per branch, a page for every treatment in Arabic and English, reviews collected within Google’s rules, and tracking that shows the calls and bookings that come from the map. Nobody can promise a map position, and Google says nobody can buy one. If you are weighing outside help for the profile itself, our guide to Google Business Profile management services covers who should own it and what to ask before you sign.

For the wider plan behind the map, see our guide to dental clinic SEO in Saudi Arabia. Once the clinic does show, our local SEO guide for clinics covers keeping the same facts in the profile, the page and the markup. Before posting offers, before and after photos or patient stories, check your health regulator’s current advertising rules; this guide contains no treatment advice.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Why is my business not showing on Google Maps?

Search for its exact name first. If it does not appear even then, Google is not showing the profile: it is unverified, suspended or disabled, treated as a duplicate, or still under review. If it appears by name but not for searches like "dentist near me", the profile is live but ranks below other businesses on relevance, distance or prominence.

Why is my clinic verified but not showing on Google Maps?

Verification is only the first condition. Google says rankings for new businesses can take up to a month to appear and that edits can take up to 3 days. After that, check whether the profile was suspended or marked as a duplicate, and whether it appears for its name but not for patient searches, which is a ranking problem, not a visibility problem.

How long does it take for a new clinic to appear on Google Maps?

The profile has to be verified first, and Google chooses the verification method. If you get a postcard, most codes arrive within 14 days. After verification, Google says rankings for new businesses can take up to a month to appear in search results.

Can we add our main treatment or district to the clinic name on Google?

No. Google's guidelines do not allow service information or location information in the business name, and unnecessary information in the name can lead to a suspension. List treatments as services on the profile and describe your districts on the branch page of your website.

Our Google profile was suspended. Should we create a new one?

No. Google's help page on suspended profiles says not to create a new profile for the same business. Fix what broke the guidelines, then submit one appeal with complete evidence, such as the business registration, licence, tax certificate and a utility bill in the clinic's name, because an appeal can only be submitted once.

Why does our clinic show on my phone but patients cannot find it?

Distance is one of the three main local ranking factors, and you are searching from next to the clinic. A patient two districts away sees a different map with closer clinics. Test from other districts, or with a search set to the patient's location, before deciding what to fix.
