SEO for abaya stores in Saudi Arabia: build a page for each way shoppers describe an abaya, and be live before Ramadan
How Saudi shoppers search for abayas beyond the word abaya, what 11 abaya store menus offer instead, the week before Eid al-Fitr when clothing card spending peaks, and two product page faults we found in store sitemaps and product names.
SEO for an abaya store means building a page for each way shoppers describe an abaya, and having those pages live before Eid. Shoppers search by cut, fabric, occasion and size, but none of the 11 store menus we read has a page for open abayas, evening, large sizes or Ramadan. Clothing card spending peaks the week before Eid al-Fitr.
This guide is for owners of abaya and modest fashion stores that sell in Saudi Arabia on Salla, Zid, Shopify or WooCommerce. On 31 October 2026 we ran 64 autocomplete searches and 10 Google searches from a Riyadh location, read the home pages of 11 abaya stores from page 1 and the black abaya pages of 8, tested 275 product addresses taken from store sitemaps, and calculated Eid timing from Saudi card spending data. The limits are at the end.

The short answer: five findings and what to do
| What we found | What to do |
|---|---|
| Shoppers add a cut, fabric, occasion, size or person to the word abaya. Store menus follow colour, season and offers. | Give each way shoppers describe an abaya its own page. |
| The four weeks to Eid al-Fitr carry about 14% of a year’s clothing card spending, and the peak week is always the one before Eid week. | Have the pages live and linked by mid-December for Ramadan 2027. |
| All 7 black abaya category pages, every one on Salla, print an empty product grid in the raw HTML. | Check that product links load, and add text to the category page. |
| 76 of 275 product addresses in store sitemaps answer 302 to the home page. | Decide what each retired abaya returns, and list only live addresses. |
| 12 of 41 product names name no cut, fabric or colour. | Name each product with its cut, fabric and colour. |
How shoppers search for an abaya
Autocomplete returned nothing for nine phrasings of SEO or marketing for abaya and fashion stores, in Arabic and English, so the volume sits on the shopper side. Keyword Planner gives ranges, so we quote the lower bound: three Saudi store terms, «متجر عبايات», «عبايات سوداء» and «عبايات اون لاين», add up to at least 2,100 searches a month, while the bare word «عبايات» sits in the 100,000 to 1,000,000 band.
What shoppers add to the word is the useful part. Of 14 such phrases, 13 returned the maximum of ten suggestions and one returned four. The right-hand column counts how many of the 11 abaya stores we read have a menu entry for the same idea.
| Shopper search (Arabic) | Autocomplete suggestions | Stores with a menu entry, of 11 |
|---|---|---|
| عباية كلوش (flared cut) | 10 | 2 |
| عباية مفتوحة (open front) | 10 | 0 |
| عباية بشت (bisht cut) | 10 | 2 |
| عباية كريب (crepe fabric) | 10 | 0 |
| عبايات للدوام (for work) | 10 | 3 |
| عبايات للمحجبات (for hijab wearers) | 10 | 0 |
| عبايات حمل (maternity) | 4 | 0 |
| عبايات رمضان (Ramadan) | 10 | 0 |
| عبايات سوداء (black) | 10 | 6 |
Autocomplete shows at most ten suggestions, so a 10 means the phrase is common, not how common. Menus are built the other way round: by colour (6 of 11 name black), by weather season (7), and by offers and new arrivals (9). A size guide is linked from 8 of the 11 and an exchange policy from 10, which is good practice, but a size guide is not a page a shopper reaches by searching for a size.
Ramadan is the sharpest gap. «عبايات رمضان 2027» already appears in autocomplete, more than three months before Ramadan begins, and none of the 11 menus has a Ramadan entry.
A menu is one signal, not the whole store. A store may offer these as filters inside a category, and a filter helps the shopper but gives Google no address to show for «عبايات سهرة». So we also searched four of the phrases from Riyadh:
| Search | Store pages | Blog posts | Social and marketplace |
|---|---|---|---|
| عباية كلوش | 7 | 1 | 0 |
| عبايات سهرة | 7 | 1 | 0 |
| عبايات مقاس كبير | 4 | 2 | 2 |
| عبايات رمضان | 3 | 2 | 3 |
Of those 32 results, 21 are store pages (category, product or home), 6 are blog posts, 3 are social pages and 2 are a fashion marketplace. Only 6 of the 32 come from the 11 stores whose menus we read, and none from them on the Ramadan search. For these phrases, a page or guide built for the phrase is what Google shows, and the stores that top the generic searches are not the ones holding them.
On the generic searches page 1 looks different. «متجر عبايات» shows 9 store home pages, «عبايات سوداء» shows an AI Overview and 8 results (7 category pages and 1 product page, all on Salla), and «عبايات اون لاين» shows 8 store home pages and one large retailer’s category page. The English search “abaya online saudi arabia” shows retailers, marketplaces, an Instagram profile and a 2023 list. When we searched for the service itself, page 1 held agency pages, a platform guide, a freelance offer and case studies, titles only.
When the money is made: the Eid calendar
Saudi Central Bank point-of-sale data, republished weekly by the KAPSARC Data Portal, shows card spending by sector. Abayas are inside “Clothing and Footwear” and SAMA does not split them out, so this is the nearest public proxy. We took the four weeks that end with Eid al-Fitr week and compared them with the eight weeks before that window (Khaleej SEO calculation).
| Year (Eid al-Fitr) | Peak week against the base | Share of the year in the 4 weeks |
|---|---|---|
| 2021 (13 May) | 2.5 times | 14.4% |
| 2022 (2 May) | 3.4 times | 14.4% |
| 2023 (21 Apr) | 2.2 times | 14.9% |
| 2024 (10 Apr) | 2.9 times | 14.7% |
| 2025 (30 Mar) | 3.4 times | not shown |
| 2026 (20 Mar) | 2.2 times | not shown |
An even spread would give 7.5% to 7.7% for four weeks, and all sectors together show 7.9% to 8.1%. The peak week was the full Sunday to Saturday week before the week that holds Eid day in all six years. We leave out the share for 2025, because SAMA’s series changed in July 2025, and for 2026, because the year is not finished.
The other seasons are weaker for clothing. In the week of Saudi National Day (23 September), clothing spending was 0.89 to 1.26 times the previous four weeks across 2020 to 2025. In the week of White Friday it was 1.09 to 1.25 times, and the following week ran higher (1.04 to 1.61 times), which weekly data cannot split between the sale and the calendar. Our guide to White Friday SEO for stores covers that season.
For 2027, timeanddate.com lists Ramadan beginning on Monday 8 February and Eid al-Fitr on Wednesday 10 March, both tentative until the moon is sighted. On those dates the peak week is 28 February to 6 March and the four-week window runs from 14 February to 13 March. Pages need to be indexed before it opens. Work back eight weeks from 8 February and you reach about 14 December 2026, as our guide to how long SEO takes explains, and our Ramadan shopping statistics show when Gulf searches for the season begin to build.
What Google gets from the category and product pages
On the category side, the 7 black abaya category pages (every one on Salla) print an empty product grid in the raw HTML: no product links, only the store’s menu and footer. In a browser the grid loads and shows 15 to 16 product links on the two pages we opened. Google renders JavaScript, so this is not a block, but Google’s own guide says pages queue for rendering, so the links and the product names reach Google later than the text. All 7 print only Organization and WebPage markup. The eighth result is a product page that ranks for «عبايات سوداء», with full product markup. That is the same pattern as our e-commerce SEO audit checklist found for categories, and the text block on the page is the part you control. The 7 category pages carry 76 to 456 words in the raw HTML, menu and footer included.
The product pages are in better shape. All 41 we saved, from 9 stores, carry Product markup with SKU, price and availability, and all 36 from Salla stores add return policy and shipping details; 30 carry a rating. Google says to add product markup to product pages instead of category pages, so this is the right place. What is missing is grouping: none of the 41 uses ProductGroup, the markup Google asks for when one product comes in several sizes, colours or materials.
Names are the second gap. Of the 41 product names, 29 name a cut, a fabric or a colour, and 17 name a fabric. The other 12 are given names (five from one store), codes such as a letter and number, or design details without a cut, fabric or colour. One store keeps codes in the page heading and puts “crepe” and “black” in the page title instead. A shopper searching «عباية كريب» or «عباية كلوش» is matching words, so the product name is where those words belong.
Retired abayas: 76 of 275 addresses redirect home
Abayas sell in seasons and in limited runs, so products come and go. For each of 11 stores we requested up to 25 product addresses from its sitemap, spread across the file, without following redirects.
| Answer | Addresses | Stores |
|---|---|---|
| 200, the page itself | 143 | 9 of 11 |
| 302 to the home page | 76 | 6 of 11 |
| 301 to another path or host | 54 | 5 of 11 |
| No answer | 2 | 2 of 11 |
In one store, 24 of 25 sitemap addresses answered 302 to the home page; in another, 22 of 25. Of the 54 permanent redirects, 29 go to another path on the same host and 25 come from one store whose sitemap lists addresses on the platform’s own domain. We did not see why the 302s happen. The product may be hidden or removed, and we confirmed in a browser that one lands on the home page. Google’s documents say a 302 is only a weak signal about the target and that a temporary redirect keeps the old address in results, and Search Console reports an empty or error page served with a 200 as a soft 404 and recommends a 404 for pages that are not found. Google describes a sitemap as the pages you think are important on your site, so addresses that send visitors elsewhere are noise in it.
What to build, in order
- Cut pages. One category per cut shoppers search: كلوش, بشت, مفتوحة, and the one your catalogue is known for. Give each a text block that says what the cut is and who it suits.
- Fabric pages. Crepe, nida and the next two fabrics you stock, with the care and feel in plain words. Only 4 of the 11 stores link a fabric or care guide.
- Occasion pages on permanent addresses. Work, evening, graduation and Ramadan, reused every year, with no year in the address. Build Ramadan first: the window opens on 14 February.
- A size and fit page. Abayas are sized by length, so give the length for each size, a way to measure, and a category for large sizes and maternity.
- Product names and markup. Cut, fabric and colour in the name, and ProductGroup if the same abaya comes in several sizes or colours.
- A rule for sold-out abayas. If it may return, keep a live page that says so and links to close alternatives. If it is gone, return a 404 or 410, or a 301 to the nearest category if your platform can. Salla’s help articles we read in October show no redirect manager, so ask the platform in writing what it returns for a hidden product (our Salla and Zid comparison has the detail).
The same method works for other seasonal categories, as in our guide to SEO for jewellery stores, where the peak also falls before Eid.
When to ask for help
Steps 4 and 5 can be done in a week by a store owner with platform access. Steps 1 to 3 and the redirect rule need Arabic copy written for shoppers, a clean category structure and developer time, and they have a deadline of about 14 December. Our e-commerce SEO service builds these pages in Arabic and English, and our Salla SEO service covers the platform limits above.
How we checked, and the limits
On 31 October 2026 we ran 64 Google autocomplete searches with the Saudi setting (the suggestions come from a machine in Egypt, so place names that are not Saudi were ignored; the counts are capped at ten). We searched ten phrases from a Riyadh location with personalisation off and noted the organic results and whether an AI Overview heading appeared; we report no positions and read titles and addresses only. Sixteen sites held page 1 of the three generic Arabic searches; we read 11 home pages (a large retailer answered 403, and 4 sites appeared only through a category page), 8 black abaya pages and the product pages below. A menu is the links inside the page’s navigation and header in the raw HTML, so filters and collections that are not in the menu are not counted. For the sitemap test we took up to 25 addresses per store from 11 stores (4 more had no readable product sitemap, one of them after a timeout on the first try); each was requested once from Egypt with a phone browser header, and redirects were not followed. The 41 product pages are the first five that answered 200 and had an abaya in the address, per store, in sitemap order (one store gave one page); we read each product name by hand and read the markup from the raw HTML, so markup that an app adds after load is not counted. The SAMA series is the sector “Clothing and Footwear”, not abayas, with two series that differ in level by about 6% on the two overlapping weeks, so each Eid window is computed inside one series. Eid dates for 2021 to 2026 are the first day announced in Saudi Arabia, and 2027 is tentative. We did not open store pages beyond these, we have no store traffic or sales data, and nothing here shows that a change lifts rankings.
