SEO for small business in Saudi Arabia: what to do first, and what to skip
A verified profile, one page for each service, Arabic written for how customers search, a count of calls, and one sheet that keeps it all identical. The order for owners with a small team, tested against 15 Riyadh service pages.
A small business in Saudi Arabia should start SEO with five things, in this order: a verified Google Business Profile, one page for each service, Arabic written the way customers search, a count of calls and enquiries, and one sheet that keeps all of them identical. Skip district page copies and paid links.

This guide is for owners and managers of small businesses in Saudi Arabia: shops, clinics, service companies, offices and online sellers with a small team. It rests on Google’s own documents, Monsha’at’s size classification and a check we ran on 26 October 2026: we opened 15 service-company pages that Google showed on page 1 of three Riyadh searches and read what each hands Google. The sources are listed at the end. Pages change, so re-check what matters to you.
The short answer
| Step | What to do | Done when |
|---|---|---|
| 1. Profile | Verify one Business Profile with the real name, hours, category and service area | Your business shows on Maps when you search its name and city |
| 2. Service pages | Write one page for each service you sell | Each page states the city, a price basis, hours and how to call |
| 3. Language | Write Arabic first, in the words customers type | An Arabic reader can act without translating anything |
| 4. Count | Count calls, message taps and form sends every month | You can say how many enquiries search brought last month |
| 5. One sheet | Keep name, address, hours and phone identical everywhere | Profile, website and directories match line by line |

Are you a small business?
Monsha’at, the Small and Medium Enterprises General Authority, classifies a business by full-time employees and yearly revenue together. If the two point to different sizes, the higher size applies.
| Size | Full-time employees | Yearly revenue |
|---|---|---|
| Micro | 1 to 5 | SAR 0 to 3 million |
| Small | 6 to 49 | SAR 3 to 40 million |
| Medium | 50 to 249 | SAR 40 to 200 million |
Source: Monsha’at, Enterprises’ Classification, read in the Wayback Machine copy of 21 January 2026 (the page shows a last change date of 20 February 2023). The live page did not open from our network on 26 October 2026, so check it for changes.
The size changes the plan, not the order of the steps. A micro business with one location can do steps 1 to 4 itself in a month and use outside help for one audit. A small business with several services, two languages or a second branch needs the same steps repeated for each service and location, and a monthly report. Google says as much: for a small local business, you can probably do much of the work yourself.
What Google shows for a local service search
We searched three services that Riyadh customers book by phone, in Arabic, from a Riyadh location: moving furniture, air conditioner maintenance and home cleaning. Page 1 held 26 organic results.
- Service-company pages: 17, from 16 sites (one site appeared twice).
- Not company websites: 6, made of two Haraj classified listings, two Instagram profiles and two X pages.
- Directory, marketplace or list pages: 3.
- A map pack of three businesses sat on all three results pages. The moving search also showed 6 ads, and the other two showed none.
Two things follow. The competition for a small business is mostly other small companies, not big brands. And a profile or a classified listing can hold a slot, but you rent it: you control neither its layout nor what Google shows next to it.
We audited 15 of the 17 company pages (14 sites). Two answered with a bot-check page and are not counted. We fetched each page with a phone browser header, read the HTML before any script runs, and checked every flag by reading the evidence. No site is named.
| Check | Pages of 15 | What it means for you |
|---|---|---|
| One H1 that names the service | 12 | Normal: do the same |
| Tap to call link | 13 | The expected minimum on a phone |
| Message-app link | 12 | Customers choose how to reach you |
| Contact form | 9 | Optional; count its sends |
| Business address printed as text | 6 | Fine for a service-area business, if the profile agrees |
| Price in riyals printed | 6 | The customer’s first question, answered by few |
| 9 or more Riyadh districts named | 5 | Read the doorway note below |
| Markup typed as the right business | 7 | Use the most specific type |
| Markup typed as the wrong business | 2 | A mistake worth avoiding |
| Star rating markup from the business’s own reviews | 2 | Google makes these pages ineligible for stars |
Source: Khaleej SEO audit of 15 pages, 26 October 2026 (files k19_audit.py and k19_analyze.py in our working folder). Limits: 15 pages from 3 searches on one day, not a random sample; HTML before scripts run, so a number or address added by script would not show; we cannot tell the size of each business, so these are service companies, not proven small businesses.
Four findings matter more than the counts.
Two pages tell Google they are another kind of business. One moving-company page is typed Restaurant, with a cuisine of Middle Eastern and Mediterranean and a 5 out of 5 rating from 150 reviews. One air conditioner repair page is typed DryCleaningOrLaundry. Google asks for the most specific LocalBusiness sub-type that fits, and says that when a business controls the reviews about itself, its pages are ineligible for the star review feature. Both pages gain nothing from that markup and risk confusing the reader of the data.
One FAQ in the markup is not on the page. A moving-company page carries FAQ markup whose first question is about cleaning prices, with others on plumbing and pest control. None of those questions is in the page text. Google’s guideline is not to mark up content that readers cannot see on the page.
Five pages list nine or more districts. A short list of the areas you really serve is useful. Google’s spam policy names, as doorway abuse, pages targeted at specific cities or regions that funnel users to one page, and substantially similar pages built to rank for similar searches. One list on a service page is not that. A page for each district with the same text and a swapped name is the pattern to avoid.
Six pages print a price. Three of the four People also ask questions on the moving search were about cost. A price basis, such as a starting price or the factors that change it, is the sentence most of these pages leave out.
Step 1: the profile, once for each location
Google says local results are mainly based on relevance, distance and prominence, and that there is no way to request or pay for a better local ranking. Prominence reflects links from other websites and your reviews.
What you control:
- Verify the profile. Google shows business information on Maps and Search only for verified businesses.
- Use the real-world name, the one on your sign and stationery, with no keywords or extra words added. Google also does not accept a P.O. box or a mailbox at a remote location as an address.
- If you go to customers, a service-area business should have one profile for its central office or location with a designated service area. A virtual office is not eligible.
- Fill in hours, category, phone and photos, and reply to every review.
- Expect delay. Rankings for a new business can take up to a month, and edits can take up to 3 days to appear.
For the address line, Saudi Post says the national address has six parts: building number, street name, district, city, postal code and secondary number. The short address is four letters plus four digits (its example is RAGI2929). Printing it on your contact page takes one line.
If you run a clinic, the same steps apply with extra rules for health content, and our guide to local SEO for clinics covers them.
Step 2: one page for each service
A service page is the page a customer lands on after the search. It does not need to be long: the 15 pages we read ranged from 211 to 4,827 words, with a median of 1,331. It needs to answer the questions a customer asks before calling.
A service page carries eight things:
- An H1 that names the service and the city.
- A first paragraph that says what you do, for whom and where, in one or two sentences.
- What is included and what is not.
- A price basis: a starting price, or the factors that change it.
- The areas you serve, as a short list, and your real address or service area.
- Hours, including Eid and National Day changes.
- A tap to call link, a message link or a form, all visible without scrolling on a phone.
- Proof: photos of your work and reviews shown as text with their source.
Write one page for each service. Add a page for a location only when you have something to say that the others do not, such as a different team, a different address or different hours.
Step 3: Arabic first
All 15 pages we audited are in Arabic, and 4 declare language alternates. Write the Arabic page first, in the words customers type, not as a translation. If you also sell to English readers, publish a separate English page and link the two with hreflang: Google says localized versions are only treated as duplicates when the main content stays untranslated. Our Arabic SEO service page explains how we approach this.
Step 4: count what arrives
Search Console is a free Google service that shows how your site appears in Search. Connect it first. Then count the actions that matter for a phone business:
| What to count | Where | Note |
|---|---|---|
| Calls and direction requests | The profile’s own reports | Check them monthly |
| Taps on the phone link | A custom event in Google Analytics | The enhanced measurement list has no phone link event, so you define one |
| Form sends | The generate_lead event | Google lists it as a recommended event |
| Where the customer heard of you | Your own sheet | Ask every new customer and write the answer down |
Source: Google Analytics Help, Enhanced measurement events and Recommended events, and Search Console Help, About Search Console, read on 26 October 2026.
We quote no benchmark for calls per visit, because we found no Saudi figure we could verify. If you have visits and no enquiries, our guide on traffic without sales gives the order to diagnose it.
Step 5: one sheet and a monthly routine
Keep one sheet with the name, address or service area, hours, phone, services and price basis, and treat it as the only source. The profile, the website, the markup and every directory are copies of it. Once a month, compare them line by line, check the hours before Eid and National Day, and read what changed in Search Console.
For reviews, ask every customer the same way at the same step, and reply to every review. Google’s Maps policy does not allow incentives such as payment, discounts or free services in exchange for a review.
What to skip
| Skip | Why |
|---|---|
| Paying for links | Google’s guidance is not to pay for links to your site, and its hiring page says you should never have to link to an SEO |
| A page for every district with the same text | Google names it as doorway abuse |
| Stars from your own reviews in markup | Google makes the page ineligible for the star feature |
| Keywords in the business name | Google requires the real-world name |
| Guaranteed rankings | Google says no one can guarantee a number 1 ranking |
| Tools that claim to be approved by Google | Google says it does not evaluate or endorse third-party SEO tools |

Do it yourself, hire a freelancer or an agency?
Do it yourself when you have one location, a few services and an hour a week: steps 1 to 5 above are the work. Google suggests that the best time to hire is a redesign or a new site, when the structure can be built right from the start. Hire when the work needs a developer, when you have several locations or languages, or when your time costs more than the fee. If the question is a salary against a retainer, SEO agency or in-house hire in Saudi Arabia sets out four tests and the Saudi employer costs.
Before you hire, use Google’s own questions: can they show examples and success stories, what results and timeframe do they expect, what is their experience in your industry and city, and will they share every change they make. If they offer an audit, give read access to Search Console only. Be wary of an unsolicited email from a firm that has noticed your site, and of any guarantee. Our guides on choosing an SEO agency, what SEO costs in Saudi Arabia and how long it takes go through each question. For work across several locations, see our SEO agency in Saudi Arabia page, and for Qatar, the Qatar page has its own small-business section.
When SEO is not your first move
If customers do not search for what you sell, SEO cannot create the demand. Type your service and city into Google and see what it suggests and what the map shows. If you reach customers by introduction, such as a few corporate buyers, a referral list is faster. And if nobody answers the phone, fix that before you send more customers to it.
A 30 day plan
| Week | Work | Done when |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Write the sheet; verify or fix the profile; set hours for the next holiday | Profile and sheet match |
| 2 | Write or fix the page for your best-selling service: price basis, areas, hours, call link | The page is live in Arabic |
| 3 | Connect Search Console; add the phone and form events; test them | Each event fires on a test |
| 4 | Start the review routine; repeat the page for the next service | One routine, one monthly count |
